Kashmir family tour — day by day

  1. Day 1

Airport pick-up and a short transfer. A shikara ride in the afternoon — the single most reliable hit with children on the whole trip. Early dinner.

April to October. June and July suit school holidays; April adds the Tulip Garden.

Good to know

Drive times, honestly

The longest leg is Srinagar to Pahalgam at about two and a half hours, and we break it. Gulmarg is roughly two hours each way. Everything else is short. Mountain roads are winding, so pack something for a child who gets carsick.

What to pack

Warm layers even in summer — Gulmarg is cold whatever the calendar says. Sturdy shoes for the meadows, sunscreen, and any medication you rely on, since pharmacies outside Srinagar are limited.

Ponies and sledges

Pony rides and sledging in Gulmarg and Pahalgam are run by local operators at fixed rates and are not included in the package price. We brief you on the going rate beforehand so you are not negotiating with a child in tow.

Food

Kashmiri food is mild rather than fiery, and every stay on this itinerary can do simple, child-friendly meals on request. Tell us about allergies or dietary needs when you book and we pass it to each property in advance.

Questions people ask

Yes, with the right pacing. The drives are the only real challenge — which is why this itinerary shortens them, starts later, and puts something to do at the end of each one.

We book spacious family rooms as standard and connecting rooms wherever the property offers them. Tell us your family's ages when you enquire and we will match the hotels to it.

You have a doctor-on-call arrangement and 24x7 support from our Srinagar office for the whole trip, plus a trip manager on WhatsApp who can reach you in minutes.
