Asia's largest tulip garden opens for about three weeks and then it is over for a year. This trip is built around that window — 1.5 million tulips below the Zabarwan hills, with the almond and cherry orchards blooming at the same time.

Arrive Srinagar · the Boulevard
Airport pick-up and a transfer to Dal Lake. An evening shikara with the Zabarwan hills going pink behind you.

The Tulip Garden · Nishat and Shalimar
Early into the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden before the crowds — 1.5 million bulbs in terraced beds against the hills. Nishat Bagh and Shalimar Bagh at golden hour afterwards.

Blossom orchards · Badamwari
The almond orchards at Badamwari and the cherry blossom around Srinagar, then the old city — Jamia Masjid and the craft workshops.

Gulmarg · last snow above the flowers
Up to Gulmarg, where spring is still weeks away. Gondola Phase 1 for snow on the peaks while the valley below is in full bloom.

Floating market · departure
Out at dawn for the floating vegetable market on Dal Lake — traders trading from boats, an hour after sunrise — then breakfast and the airport.

Best time for the Srinagar tulip bloom
Late March to late April. The garden's exact opening shifts each year with the winter, and we time your dates to it.
Good to know
The bloom window moves
The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden usually opens in the last week of March and runs three to four weeks. The exact dates depend on the winter and are announced shortly before. We track the announcement and set your dates against it rather than guessing.
Go early
The garden is busiest from mid-morning onwards, especially at weekends. We start early so you get the terraces in soft light with room to move, and see the Mughal gardens later when the tulip crowds have arrived.
What to pack
Spring in the valley is mild by day and genuinely cold at night. Layers, a light waterproof for April showers, and comfortable shoes — the tulip terraces are a long, gentle climb on gravel paths.
If the tulips are late
It happens. We will tell you before you book flights, and shift your dates where we can. Even outside the window, the almond orchards at Badamwari, the cherry blossom and the Mughal gardens make the trip worth taking.

Around 1.5 million bulbs across roughly 70 varieties, terraced on the slope between the Zabarwan hills and Dal Lake. It is the largest tulip garden in Asia.
It is arguably the best. Tulips and blossom in the valley, snow still on Gulmarg's peaks, and comfortable daytime temperatures — but it is also peak season, so book early.
We build your dates around the bloom rather than the other way round. If the season runs late we tell you before you book flights and shift the trip — the blossom orchards and gardens are worth it regardless.
