Kashmir from Delhi
Delhi is the easiest place in India to reach Kashmir from, and it is not close. The flight is about eighty minutes, services run several times a day, and return fares booked around forty-five days out typically sit between ₹4,000 and ₹7,000 — roughly half what someone flying from Bengaluru or Chennai will pay for the same holiday.
That matters more than it sounds. Because you lose almost nothing to travel days, a five-night trip from Delhi genuinely is five nights in the valley. We quote land-only, so you book your own flights and keep the difference rather than paying an aggregator's markup on them.
What a Delhi trip actually costs
Here is the arithmetic we would give you on the phone, for two people on our six-day Classic Kashmir itinerary. Our part starts at ₹24,999 per person on twin-sharing, and covers stays, all transfers by private vehicle, breakfast and dinner, airport pickup and a trip manager on WhatsApp.
Flights — ₹8,000 to ₹14,000 for two
Return, booked around six weeks ahead. Fares climb steeply inside three weeks and in the tulip and New Year windows. This is the single biggest variable you control.
The land package — from ₹49,998 for two

Tickets and extras — ₹4,000 to ₹8,000
Gondola phases at Gulmarg, ponies, sledges, garden entries, union taxis inside the resort towns, and lunches. Everybody pays these; not everybody tells you about them beforehand.
All in — around ₹60,000 to ₹70,000
For two people, six days, mid-range, travelling from Delhi in a normal month. Peak season and premium hotels push it higher; February or September pull it down.
Doing it on a budget
Delhi is the best city in the country from which to do Kashmir cheaply, and the savings come almost entirely from timing rather than haggling. Travel between mid-January and early March, or late August through September, and both airfare and hotel rates drop substantially while the valley is arguably at its best.
Beyond that: book flights six weeks out, take a houseboat rather than a hotel in Srinagar, keep to fewer bases instead of moving every night, and skip the second gondola phase if the weather is poor rather than paying for a view of cloud. The train from Delhi
There is still no direct New Delhi–Srinagar train. You travel in two legs: a Vande Bharat from New Delhi to Katra — the morning 22439 leaves around 06:00 and arrives about 14:20, six days a week — then a night in Katra, then the Katra–Srinagar Vande Bharat over the Chenab bridge, roughly three hours and ten minutes.
It costs less than flying and takes about a day longer each way. Take it if the journey appeals, if you want the Vaishno Devi darshan on the way, or if someone in the group would rather not fly. Take the morning flight
An early departure from Delhi puts you on the water at Dal Lake the same afternoon. An evening flight costs you a sightseeing day at the far end for the same money.
Long weekends are expensive
Delhi empties into Kashmir on every long weekend, and fares and hotel rates follow. Shifting your dates by three days is often worth ₹5,000 a head.
Allow three hours flying home
Srinagar runs additional screening on departure, including bag checks before you enter the terminal. It is not a thirty-minutes-before-boarding airport.
Winter needs a spare day
January and February can bring flight delays. If you are back at work the morning after you land, build a day of slack into the itinerary rather than into your leave.
