Mumbai is one of the few cities in India with dependable year-round direct flights to Srinagar, and that reliability is the thing to protect when you book. A connection through Delhi saves a little money and costs you most of a day at both ends — on a five-night trip that is a fifth of your holiday spent in airports.

Most enquiries we take from Mumbai are families, so this page is written for that. If you are two people rather than four, the shape is the same and the per-person cost is a little higher, because a car and a guide cost what they cost regardless of how many seats are filled.

What a family of four actually spends

Five nights, two adults and two children, mid-range hotels, a private vehicle throughout, breakfast and dinner included. Realistic totals land between ₹1.1 lakh and ₹1.7 lakh — roughly ₹28,000 to ₹42,000 a head. Where you fall in that range is decided almost entirely by hotel category and travel month, not by the itinerary itself.

Flights — the biggest single line

Four return fares from Mumbai is the largest cheque you will write on this trip, and the one we have no part in. Book six to eight weeks out; inside three weeks the fare can double.

The land package

Our six-day family itinerary starts at ₹22,999 per person, easy-paced with connecting family rooms and a doctor on call. Children sharing with parents are priced lower — ask.

Tickets children actually want

Gondola phases, ponies in Pahalgam, sledges and snow gear in Gulmarg. Budget ₹8,000 to ₹15,000 for a family of four across a week, and expect to say yes more often than you planned to.

Where families overspend

Buying gondola phase two on a cloudy day, and shopping stops arranged by drivers on commission. We do not run commission stops, and we will tell you when the mountain is not worth the ticket.

How long to go for

Five nights works, six is more comfortable with children. Because the flight is long enough to consume most of both travel days, a four-night booking realistically gives you three days in the valley — and Kashmir punishes rushing more than most places, because the distances between Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam are mountain distances rather than map distances.

Our advice to Mumbai families is consistently to do fewer places properly. Two nights on a houseboat, a day in Gulmarg, two nights around Pahalgam, and one deliberately empty day, beats a five-valley sprint photographed through a car window.

Good to know

May and June are peak

The school break is when everyone from Mumbai comes, and rates reflect it. Late September and October are cooler, quieter, cheaper and arguably prettier, with the chinars turning at the end of October.

Pack for a bigger swing

Mumbai does not prepare anyone for a 3°C morning in Gulmarg in April. Layers rather than one heavy coat — there is a full season-by-season packing list.

Take the direct flight

The saving on a Delhi connection is rarely worth the day it costs, particularly with children. If the direct is full, a morning connection beats an afternoon one every time.

Altitude, gently

Gulmarg sits at 2,650 m and the gondola takes you higher. Children and grandparents do fine, but plan the first day low and slow rather than driving straight up from the airport.

Questions people ask

For five nights, including return flights from Mumbai, mid-range hotels, a private vehicle throughout and meals, most families land between ₹1.1 lakh and ₹1.7 lakh in total — roughly ₹28,000 to ₹42,000 per person. The spread comes almost entirely from hotel category and travel month, not from the itinerary.

Yes. Mumbai is one of the few cities with dependable year-round direct services to Srinagar, taking a little under three hours. That reliability is worth paying a little more for, because a connection through Delhi turns a half-day journey into a full one.

Five nights works and six is more comfortable with children. The flight is long enough that arrival and departure days are largely consumed by travel, so a four-night trip realistically gives you three days in the valley.

The May and June school break is the most popular window and the most expensive. If your dates are flexible, late September and October are cooler, quieter and cheaper, with the chinars turning at the end of October. December and January are for families who specifically want snow.

No, and that is deliberate. We quote land-only so you book your own airfare at the real price rather than paying a marked-up bundled fare. We will happily advise on which flights and timings to take, at no charge.
